The lovely magic of bookbinding is the many forms it can take. This project began with a local graphic designer and his client, working on a creative project: a pop-up book, written and illustrated then shelved, just now ready to take shape. Some projects are undertaken for the simple joy of seeing them come to fruition. I was hired to assemble and case-in an edition of 10 children's pop-up books.
Because of the layered nature of each page spread, the assembly of the text was accomplished using a French fold with a hinge constructed at the spine to create a concertina structure. The pages were glued together so that the die-cut window elements would lay flat. And the title was inset, creating a beveled frame in the cover of the book.
